As old school as it sounds, I still believe in the “no
pain, no gain” ideology. I don’t believe in shortcuts, even when it comes to
“working smart.”
I grew up seeing my parents work hard to make ends
meet. And when my father passed away, I knew that life without him wouldn’t be
easy. When I moved to the UK, I as determined to make something out of myself.
Today, I have a successful coffee shops around the UK.
A lot of people have asked me how I ‘made it’ and I
tell them all the same thing—you need to have strong values. These are values
that will help you build a successful business.
What are these core values? Let’s take a look:
Accountability is Important
You need to hold yourself and your employees for even
the simplest tasks. You need to get into the nook and cranny of your business’s
operations. You should look over the hiring, sales, deadlines, projects, and
all the other elements of your business.
Of course, this doesn’t mean dealing with major issues
and problems. This also means replying to clients and making sure to follow up
with them. The team should be held accountable for even the simplest tasks.
Open and Honest Communication
There’s a reason why they say “honesty is the best
policy.” If you’re honest with your employees and clients, you’ll build a
lasting relationship with them.
Communicate your policies to your employees and
customers so you can create an impeccable company culture. Never hide anything
from your workers and customers. Dishonesty will ruin your company’s
reputation.
Make Yourself Accessible to Your Clients
Whenever my clients need me, I am just a call away. If
there’s something they need to highlight or discuss, they can reach out to me.
I have built a strong relationship with my clients because I know that
communication is a two-way process.
Most clients are not used to an open and honest relationship with businesses. By providing this, you’ll build a good rep with them and boost your company’s image.
Give Back to the Community
Whether I’m having a good month or a bad one, I always
make sure to do as much as I can for others. Perhaps it’s because I grew up in
a rural part of India where I didn’t get the opportunities most people are able
to today.
Giving back to the community can help build
connections with other organizations. But more than that, it will give you a
sense of satisfaction.
Losing my dad at the age of 12 made me feel like my
world had ended. Growing up poor, we barely had anything to eat. When I arrived
in England at the age of 17, I was homeless for six months. Working my way up,
I was able to build a multi-million pound company.
