If you’re a fan of sci-fi and are looking for a good book to read during the summers, “We’re not So Different” by Fabian Grant might just be your cup of tea!
The book is about Martians becoming tired of humans interfering with their life on Mars and decide to take action by infiltrating earth. But what does the book teach us about humanity and other worlds?
Let’s take a look:
We’re All Greedy In Some Way
Whether you’re a human being or an alien, what makes us similar is that we’re all greedy for something. Whether it’s money or land, there’s some corner of our soul that wants more than what it has.
In the book, humans want to explore Mars and see if they can inhabit the planet. The Martians get tired of humans trying to conquer their land and take their homes. So, they decide to send a few Martians to earth to explore the threat humans pose. But the more they remain on earth the more they form bonds.
This shows that aliens aren’t that different from us. They also have an evil and greedy side to them, just like humans.
Despite Differences, There Can Be a Common Goal
A Martian named Lois and her son volunteer to conduct a scouting mission on earth, which will decide the fate of humans. Not every Martian is happy with war being declared on earth. Some believe it will give way to useless fighting and unnecessary bloodshed.
Some of the Martians want to stop the war from happening. This is a reminder that there are people in real life going through similar situations. There are countries at war with one another despite the people of said countries wanting peace.
We all want to protect our homes and those dearest to us. Just like how the aliens were fed up of humans endangering their planet and loved ones, we are all tired of war, depleted resources, and unnecessary suffering.
Fabian Grant sheds light on what the similarities between human beings and extraterrestrial creatures are.
